Echoes of the sea
I abhor the days within myself,
That held me back from freedom’s grace,
To cross the sea,
And seek new land,
For there we can be saved.
To this nostalgic journey,
My consciousness has been enslaved.
With dreams that swallow our minds,
With delusions of an un-corporate reality,
With images of better days ahead.
In a last savoring chance,
To safeguard those shards of memory,
And of future aspirations,
The day was here,
Of memories of finished years.
Amidst the sea of salty water,
Light faltered in through the cracks,
Of an ancient boat.
Many looked frantic and exhausted,
While waves pounded the hull with relentless beat.
These salted memories make bitter tragedies,
That turns the tides of history,
While spreading ripples over the shores,
Of time declaring forgiveness,
For vanished souls.
The sound of the sea was suddenly echoed,
As high pitches clashed,
All was lost in a blink of an eye,
The cross miles,
And, the cultural divides.
All our fears are rest in peace,
All our hopes are left as dreams.
We were the chosen ones,
The ones who got away,
Of land,
Yet not of sea.
Networking Session
Networking Session A networking session about people mending broken identities: re-creating stories and imagery that have been stereotyped throughout the years. The aim of this formalized matchmaking process is to facilitate integration and inclusion while mass producing relations that would instigate thought-provoking narratives about the lives and contexts of migrant stories across Malta.
Workshop I
Victor and Maria Borg Vella, two local journalists, interviewed a migrant woman who left her country in search for better hopes and dreams. While reflecting on this story, especially her relation to water during her timeless crossing, the course offered instructions and feedback on the skills and methodology required in the art of writing.

Workshop II
Music can unite us all. Peter Paul Galea, from Tribali, introduced his music project in the Philippines and proceeded to a drum workshop using Djembes. The participants learnt how to produce sound using simple beats and rhythms.
Workshop III
Pyt Farrugia and Angela Sammut, both researchers and activists, facilitated an intercultural dialogue session that collected narratives informed by participants’ spirituality, beliefs, and attitudes while exploring their relevance to legal policies – especially policies that target migrants settling in Malta. A number of creative writing pieces were produced in collaboration with our activists and the group Spark 15.

Workshop V
Drama teacher, Antonella Sgobbo’s workshop focused on representing the theatre as music by orchestrating body sounds. During this workshop, Girl Guides Hamrun, Malta, used their voice to produce improvisations and a music montage. At the end, the common result was performed as a choreographed and orchestrated harmony.
